What is a collective action?

A collective action (called a “class action” in English) is a legal procedure in which a group of injured parties with similar claims join forces by being represented by an interest group or advocacy organization. This can be a solution when individuals do not have the resources to pursue their own case. In a collective action, the judge assesses the claims of the entire group at once. In this way, the judge may issue an injunction or determine that the defendant must pay compensation to the affected parties.
